After School Programs

The Fall 2011 Muddy Brook PTA After School Program will begin during the week of October 17th and will run for six weeks. (There will be NO classes during Thanksgiving week)

  • All afternoon classes are from 3:30 until 4:30 pm.
  • We are now offering morning classes from 8:00 a.m. – 8::45 a.m.
  • The cost of the program is $30 per student with a limited number of scholarships available to families in need of assistance. Class sizes are limited.

Please fill out the After School program registration form and return it to the school with payment by Friday, October 7th. If you have questions, please contact Cara Becker at [email protected] or 528-3014.

Class Offerings

Yoga for Kids: Tuesday a.m., Grades 1-4 Connie Wilson, Stage

Yoga increases focus, creativity, concentration and communication. Through the use of imagery from nature, animals, circus and life, the children will be guided through a series of age appropriate yoga postures, creative movement exercises and breathing techniques.

Chess: Wednesday 8 a.m, Grades 2-4 Gene Kalish, Science Room

Whether you are a beginner or advanced player, you are welcome to come and join the fun! If you own a chess set, please bring it with you. Please make note on the registration form if you are a beginner.

Yoga for Kids: Thursday 8 a.m., Grades 1 – 4 Jill Flemming, Gym

Each class will begin with a few minutes of centering breath and quieting of the mind, followed by a series of yoga postures using imagery. We will close with a guided meditation designed to prepare the students for the day ahead.

Kids and Money:  Tuesday afternoon, Grades 3 and 4 Tom Sirois, Art Room

Do you wish your child knew more about money? In this fun and entertaining program your child will learn how to Make, Spend, Save and Invest money. All concepts will be introduced and reinforced in an age-appropriate manner.

Reading Zone:  Tuesday afternoon, Grades K and 1 Cara Becker, Science Room **Class limited to 10**

Come and enjoy the world of books! We will read books and do a themed activity to go along with what we’ve read. This is a great opportunity for new readers to become comfortable with books while having fun.

Circus Skills: Wednesday afternoon, Grades 2 – 4 Jill Flemming, Gym  **Class limited to 8**

Each circus class will begin with a stretching warm up and a short game. Each week we will explore a different component of circus skills such as balance, tumbling, juggling etc. We will also learn basic juggling/manipulation with scarves, plates, rings, and bean bags.

Reading Zone II: Thursday afternoon, Grades 3 and 4 Mrs.Melville, Library

The READING ZONE returns!  Third and Fourth graders can join Mrs. Melville every Thursday in the library, for an hour of blissful reading!  In the READING ZONE, we will all ‘zone out’ and enter the world of the story. Everyone will find an area to set up their reading ‘nest’ so bring a pillow, or blanket, or sleeping bag. Bring a fiction story that you can read and love to read (I can help you pick one if you don’t one). Bring an afterschool snack. Bring your desire to ‘zone out’ and let the cares of the day fall away! Fifteen people will be able to participate in this silent hour of joy.

Ready Set Go !!  Thursday afternoon, Grades 3 and 4 Stephanie Mason, Gym

Ready Set Go is a great way to get some extra playtime after school. Activities include tag games, ball games, and individual challenges. Limit 20. Indoor/Outdoor depending on weather.
