Spring has sprung, the frogs are awake, and loads of soil are on order for Mud Day 2012. Muddy Brook Regional Elementary School’s annual event will take place on Saturday, May 19, from 11am to 3pm, on the school grounds in Great Barrington. Mud Day is a celebration of the Berkshire landscape, our literal common ground. It is about bringing the classroom outdoors.
Berkshire Mountain Bakery, The Scoop, Naji’s, Riverbend Cafe, Broody Hill Cookies, and other food vendors will be selling tasty fare. A cord of firewood, donated by JLH Outdoor Services, will be raffled off (and delivered the same day), as well as a unicycle from Berkshire Bike and Board. “Mud Day 2012” t-shirts and hats will be for sale. There will be an open mic at noon (sign up at 11:30am), so tune your instruments, bring your poems, and raise your voices. Fourth graders will kick off the open mic with a talent show. At 2pm, don’t miss the Unicycle Club Expo.
And, of course, there will be MUD: mud between tug of war teams, muddy pools for digging up treasures, mud for making pies. Cleaner activities include face painting, temporary Mud Day tattoos, and tie-dying (bring your own cotton item or purchase a white t-shirt).

ps Remember to Be Kind to the Frogs!
I know, I know, you’re volunteering for Mud Day, you baked cookies for the teachers and have given money left and right.
But did you know when you shop you can automatically earn money for Muddy Brook Elementary and all the cool stuff they and the PTA do?
Only a fraction of parents have bought scrip cards this year and we’ve still raised a good amount of money so imagine if we doubled the number of people who bought them!
You can order small denominations if that seems more manageable.
Happy shopping!
